Exploring Design and Style in the New Age of Members Clubs

In 2024, the world of work, life, dining, and play has seamlessly fused—and nowhere is this more evident than in the rise of modern members clubs. These exclusive spaces have become a response to a world reshaped by the pandemic, where remote work and the blending of professional and personal lives have transformed how we connect.

Far from their traditional roots, today’s members clubs are status symbols—markers of cultural affiliation, style, and, often, net worth. Beyond exclusivity, these clubs offer curated experiences that combine luxury, creativity, and community. They reflect not only the values of their members but also the cutting-edge vision of the designers who bring them to life

This week, we’re exploring the design and style of the new age of members clubs, diving into how these spaces balance form and function while catering to a modern lifestyle.

Aman Club, New York

A sanctuary of minimalist luxury, Aman Club’s design mirrors the serene aesthetic of the Aman Hotels brand. Earthy tones, natural materials, and an atmosphere of understated opulence create a retreat for its elite members. The focus here is on wellness, privacy, and impeccable design.

Zero Bond, New York

A hotspot for NYC’s trendsetters, Zero Bond’s design blends urban sophistication with intimate, art-filled spaces. Every corner reflects the club’s ethos of exclusivity and creativity, featuring custom furniture and a curated collection of contemporary works by leading artists.

Core Club, New York

Core Club is the epitome of multifunctional design, merging coworking areas, social lounges, and wellness facilities. Designed with clean lines and a neutral palette, the interiors exude timeless elegance, perfect for its mix of high-level networking and personal rejuvenation.

NeueHouse, Global

Geared towards stylish professionals, NeueHouse serves as a hub for creatives and entrepreneurs. Its interiors—designed with mid-century modern influences and a focus on warm, inviting materials—balance productivity and comfort. Whether in Manhattan, LA, or London, each location reflects its local culture while maintaining the brand’s cohesive design language.

Around the World

The Wilde, Milan

This stylish members club in the heart of Milan blends Italian sophistication with cutting-edge modern design. The Wilde’s interiors feature a mix of luxurious textures, bold patterns, and curated art, creating a space that feels both intimate and effortlessly chic. Designed to attract Milan’s creative elite, it embodies a fusion of work, culture, and high-end leisure.

Nikita, London

Nikita, located in London's Mayfair district, is a private members' club that exudes Parisian elegance and exclusivity. Designed to mimic a Haussmann-style Parisian apartment, the club features velvet booths, patterned fabrics, and art by Haculla artist Harif Guzman. The intimate, low-lit ambiance provides a perfect backdrop for both social gatherings and private events. Members enjoy a curated selection of wines, Champagnes, and cocktails, complemented by a menu with an emphasis on exquisite, sustainably sourced caviar.

Tradition: Where History and Prestige Converge

Modern members clubs owe much of their DNA to the storied institutions of the past. These traditional clubs established the groundwork for exclusivity and community, often rooted in deep tradition—and at times, controversy. While they may seem relics of a bygone era, these clubs remain as symbols of legacy and heritage, still thriving in today’s world of reimagined luxury and culture.

The National Arts Club, New York

The National Arts Club’s interiors are a testament to classic 19th-century design, with intricate woodwork, gilded details, and period furniture that create a space steeped in artistic heritage. As collaborators on this iconic project, Skyscraper Creative helped ensure its legacy evolves while maintaining its storied past.  (pictured on the cover)

The Players Club, New York

With its Victorian architecture and rich history, The Players Club’s design reflects its mission to honor the arts. Plush seating, ornate fireplaces, and dramatic lighting create an atmosphere of timeless refinement.

The Union Club, New York

This Beaux-Arts masterpiece features opulent chandeliers, detailed molding, and grand staircases that exude an air of exclusivity. Its traditional style mirrors its emphasis on decorum and heritage.

Around the World

Reform Club, London

Rich mahogany, opulent fabrics, and antique accents make this historic space a celebration of British design and tradition.

Bohemian Club, San Francisco

Nestled in the redwoods, the club’s design combines rustic elegance with artistic charm, emphasizing craftsmanship and natural materials.

The Role of Designers in Defining Members Clubs

Designers are at the heart of the members club experience. From the serene minimalism of Aman Club, envisioned by Jean-Michel Gathy, to the eclectic luxury of Soho House, shaped by founder Nick Jones, to the timeless grandeur of the Union Club, crafted by Stanford White of the legendary firm McKim, Mead & White, these spaces reflect the vision of some of the most celebrated minds in design. The choice of materials, the flow of spaces, and the interplay of light and texture work together to create environments that aren’t just functional but transformative.

Outro: Where Do You Belong?

Modern members clubs are more than spaces—they’re cultural statements, designed to inspire, connect, and elevate. Whether your style leans toward the sleek sophistication of the new breed or the rich heritage of traditional clubs, these spaces offer a window into the evolving ways we live, work, and play.
